How to Boost Your Remote Work Productivity

Master working from home

Working from your couch with your dog as your co-worker and the fridge just a few steps away might sound like a dream. Until you find yourself binge-watching a series, snacking non-stop because you’re bored, and realizing it's 3PM and you've barely tackled your to-do list.

Remote work is a double-edged sword, offering freedom and flexibility but also unique challenges to staying productive. Here’s how to win remote work productivity:

The Remote Work Productivity Blueprint

1. Create a Dedicated Workspace

Establish a dedicated work area. It doesn't have to be a full home office, but it should be a space that mentally prepares you for work mode. A consistent spot helps cue your brain that it's time to focus. And it’s important that you don’t let any distraction into that workspace whether it’s your phone or food.

2. Stick to a Routine

Just because you can work anytime doesn't mean you should. Set a schedule and stick to it. This includes starting and ending your workday at consistent times, and also getting dressed (at least from the waist up for video calls).

3. Master the Art of To-Do Lists

The night before, list out 3 important tasks for the day after. No more than 3 and no less than 3. This will help you stay focused on what really matters and will prevent the day from slipping away towards small unimportant tasks. Plus ticking items off is incredibly satisfying!

4. Take Scheduled Breaks

The Pomodoro Technique is your friend. Work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Stand up, stretch, go for a walk, or just step away from your screen. These short breaks boost mental clarity and prevent burnout.

5. Leverage Technology

Use apps and tools designed to boost remote work productivity. Use ChatGPT to save time on recurring tasks, use Notion to manage your projects & tasks, and use distraction blockers like Cold Turkey to help you stay focused.

6. Communicate Proactively

Communication is key in a remote setting. Regular check-ins with your team via video calls, messaging apps or Notion comments can help keep everyone aligned and focused on the task at hand as a team, which can boost morale and productivity.

7. Set Boundaries

Finally, set clear boundaries between work and personal time. It's easy for work to bleed into your personal life when you work from home. Make sure everyone you live with know between what hours you’ll be working and when you’ll be powering off.

During Covid every single business had to adapt or die. Those who adapted had to implement systems and processes for remote work to stay ahead. However there are still a lot of room for improvement, especially for big businesses. If you own a business and want to optimize your systems and automate your workflows & processes to save time, energy, and money as well as increase your team’s productivity then feel free to book a free consultation call with me here:
